New society hosts its first event

neil | 23 August 2009

imax.jpg The Townsville Diving Society kicks off with a bang with an IMAX (Under The Sea 3D) and pizza night on the 10th of September. Tickets costs $20 (or $65 for a family) and all proceeds will go to Project AWARE. Bring your friends, family and collegues to a fun night out for an extremely worthy cause. R.S.V.P. by the 7th of September by e-mailing townsvilledivingsociety@gmail.com

The Townsville Diving Society is a place for avid divers, aquatic enthusiasts and tourism operators to have your say on the good and bad of Townsville diving and place suggestions on what you would like to see in Townsville. Their upcoming website will have a calendar of all diving going on in Townsville, making it much easier for us bubble heads to find a way to get wet :)

Blood, sweat, tears and turtles

neil | 18 August 2009

YGL009 Portrait shot of the turtle with a diver in the background The TP Human Capital Corporate Triathlon is coming up on September 20 and Team Turtle are grearing up to take it on! Swimmer Laura Dunstan, cyclist Megan Sperring and runner Leonie Maddigan from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority are taking on the challenge to raise much needed funds for the new Turtle Hospital being built at Reef HQ Aquarium in Townsville. This world class facility will mean that sick and injured marine turtles on the Great Barrier Reef can be rehabilitated and released back into the Marine Park. So get behind the girls and help them turn their blood, sweat and tears into the new facility that will saves the lives of endangered marine turtles!

They are trying to secure corporate sponsorship at the moment for $5000 and aiming to get $2000 in personal donations – they’d love to hit $7000 for the hospital.  It’s really easy to donate – it takes 2 mins and you get a receipt so it’s all tax deductable. Save the turtles today!
